The idea for the Capital Cycles website was borne after reading articles about the staggeringly high amount of bike theft in London. With such a high risk, Londoners required a source of low cost, high quality bikes which could be delivered straight to their door.
The brief was to create a shopping experience that was as simple as possible for the user to navigate. Shades of green were chosen to match the company logo and the bicycles themselves and a shiny button and navigation style were chosen to match the bike frames.
The client chose Protx for the payment system. Like WorldPay, Protx is a third party payment portal which securely handles credit card transactions and can be seamlessly integrated with a site.
As well as being able to purchase bikes online, the client wanted a blog and messageboard to keep customers informed about the latest cycle news as well as product launches and activities. Such additions are also great for search results as Google likes sites which are regularly updated and have lots of useful content. To this end, both Wordpress and SMF were installed. Both applications are high quality, free to use and highly extensible. Each was integrated into the site with the latest posts being displayed on the home page to keep the content fresh for both visitors and search engines.
Behind the scenes, a custom built Content Management System was implemented which allows control over all aspects of the product inventory as well as access to order information. Invoices can be printed directly from the CMS for dispatch to the warehouse and to the customer.
